Finding Your Mustard Seed
“And Jesus said unto them... If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.” —Matthew 17:20, KJV
Every faith-led business begins with a mustard seed. It may be a small idea, a quiet conviction, a God-given burden, a gift you have overlooked, or a problem you feel called to solve. It may not look impressive to anyone else, but its value is not determined by its present size. Its value is found in the One who gave it to you and in what it can become.
The mustard seed represents faith that is willing to begin. You do not need every resource, to understand every step, or see the finished business before you move. You need enough faith to place what God has given you into the ground through obedience.
Your mustard seed may be hidden beneath fear, uncertainty, comparison, or the belief that you do not have enough. Perhaps you have dismissed your idea because it seems too small. Yet God frequently begins significant works through seemingly insignificant things. The question is not, “Is my seed big enough?” The question is, “Am I willing to recognize it, plant it, and trust God with its growth?”
Before you introduce your seed to the marketplace, take it into the secret place. The secret place is where your business vision is brought before God in private prayer. There, God can reveal whether the seed came from Him, purify your motives, provide direction, and prepare you to steward what He has entrusted to you.
Business Application
Write down the business idea, gift, experience, resource, or opportunity that may be your mustard seed. Take it into prayer before taking it into public. Ask God to confirm it, clarify it, and show you the first act of obedience required.
Then choose one small business action that will plant the seed. You might research your audience, define the problem you want to solve, outline your service, contact a potential customer, or schedule focused planning time.
Do not try to build the entire business today. Plant the seed through one faithful action.

Prayer Points for the Secret Place
1. Ask God to draw you into His presence
“But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret.”
—Matthew 6:6, KJV
Prayer point: Father, quiet every distraction and help me meet with You faithfully in the secret place. Teach me to seek Your presence before I seek business progress.
2. Ask God to reveal your mustard seed
“Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.”
—Jeremiah 33:3, KJV
Prayer point: Lord, reveal the idea, gift, burden, or opportunity You have placed within me. Help me recognize what I have overlooked or considered too small.
3. Ask God to examine your motives
“Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts.”
—Psalm 139:23, KJV
Prayer point: Search my heart and purify my reasons for building. Remove pride, greed, competition, selfish ambition, and the desire for human approval.
4. Ask for wisdom and direction
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
—Proverbs 3:5–6, KJV
Prayer point: Father, direct my business decisions. Show me what to begin, what to stop, what to wait for, and what step to take next.
5. Ask God to strengthen your faith
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
—2 Corinthians 5:7, KJV
Prayer point: Lord, strengthen my faith when the vision is still small and the evidence has not appeared. Help me trust Your Word above what I presently see.
6. Ask God for courage to obey
“If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land.”
—Isaiah 1:19, KJV
Prayer point: Give me the courage to obey Your instructions promptly. Deliver me from procrastination, fear, perfectionism, and hesitation.
7. Ask God to protect the seed
“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”
—Psalm 91:1, KJV
Prayer point: Protect the vision while it is developing. Guard it from confusion, discouragement, distraction, wrong counsel, and premature exposure.
8. Ask God to establish the work
“And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us.”
—Psalm 90:17, KJV
Prayer point: Establish the work of my hands. Let this business reflect Your character, serve people with excellence, and produce lasting fruit.
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for every seed of faith, purpose, and possibility You have placed within me. Draw me into the secret place, where I can hear Your voice without the noise and pressure of the world. Open my eyes to recognize the mustard seed You have entrusted to me.
Search my heart and purify my motives. Confirm what has come from You and remove what has not. Give me wisdom to understand the vision, faith to believe it, courage to plant it, and patience to allow You to produce the growth.
Protect this seed from fear, comparison, discouragement, distraction, and premature exposure. Show me the next act of obedience and help me complete it faithfully. Establish the work of my hands so that this business glorifies You, serves others, and advances Your Kingdom.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
